Making journey – Nat & Kirsty

This is a very special one as I was asked to make the engagement ring and wedding rings so this story gives you both experiences.

TELL US ABOUT THE PROPOSAL

I wanted to do it somewhere special to us both, so settled on taking the short walk up to the top of Bren Tor on the west edge of Dartmoor. Its very close to her family home and has great views. I must have made up a convincing story as to why we needed to go up there for sunrise, but it worked!

HOW DID YOU FEEL WHEN YOU HAD TO START LOOKING FOR YOUR RINGS?

Excited, but also a bit overwhelmed. There are so many places to look and different kinds of ring. Kirsty doesn’t wear any jewellery so that made it even harder making sure it was right.

HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT STEPHANIE STEVENS JEWELLERY

Through a google search. I knew that I wanted it be from a local jeweller, and Steph’s website was very good, lots of great pictures and content about her and her approach.

WHY WAS IT IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO HAVE A BESPOKE RING?

Kirsty doesn’t wear any jewellery so it was already hard picking out something that she would like. But I knew that I didn’t want something out of a high street branch that other people could also have. It was an opportunity to have something very special made, and to give something back to a local artist.

MAIN REASON YOU CHOSE STEPH TO CREATE YOUR RING

Steph was so friendly and helpful, she listened to all my ideas and gave me her advice. I felt like she wanted this to be a success as much as I did. Her website and photos of her other work were also great. You could see that the other rings she had made were made with thought.

WHAT WAS IT LIKE RECEIVING THE PHOTOS OF YOUR RING BEING MADE AND HOW DID IT MAKE YOU FEEL?

It was really exciting getting updates from Steph. The photos were a great touch. I could see it all coming together, and it was to share these with Kirsty when we were engaged.

YOUR FAVOURITE PART OF THE JOURNEY

Not sure I can pick a favourite moment. The first call with Steph was exciting, sharing ideas for the ring. And then receiving the photos of Steph putting it all together was great.

HOW DOES IT FEEL NOW YOU HAVE YOUR DREAM RING?

It’s still a bit surreal, but its amazing to know that its completely bespoke and made by someone that does this for a job in a place we both love.

WHAT DO YOUR RINGS MEAN TO YOU?

They are a reminder of the whole process, culminating in our wedding day, and the excitement that went into it all. But also of Cornwall and the place it was made.

ANY TIPS YOU CAN GIVE TO COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?

Don’t worry about the small stuff, what really matters is sharing that moment with the people you care about most.

ANY OTHER COMMENTS?

A big thank you to Steph, we couldn’t have asked for better or more meaningful rings, and for all her time looking around the beaches for Seaglass!
